Christmas has always been a holiday that centers on giving. However, I know many of us don't need anything and plenty of people across the globe do. It's nice to give a gift with meaning not just to the one you love but to someone who really needs it. You may not know them, probably will never meet them and they in turn will probably never know it was you who helped them get a new pair of glasses. Or help fund a year of education, or support women in Africa learn a trade to help them out of poverty.
We will be creating gift guides again this year, but we are putting a little more thought behind some of these things. I made a commitment to myself this year to buy a lot of my gifts from local artisans, small businesses or simply local big-box stores in order to put money into the economy where I live. Let's start off (or finish for some of you) the gift-giving season with a little more thought behind the money we spend and the love we spread.
