Spoonful of Sugar

A little undercover instagraming...

The best idea the Broadway hotshots had...traveling Broadway!! Those of us who don’t have the pleasure of residing in NYC have traveling Broadway tours. How we were so lucky to have them visit Knoxville, Tenn., I have no idea.

Fortunately, but also unfortunately, my only Broadway experience is CATS. I wish I could say I have seen more shows but how lucky I am to say I have seen at least one! Now I have seen two! Even luckier, I have a friend in the entertainment industry, and she provided my ticket. I know...who doesn’t want to be me right?

Enough about me. This show is fantastic. I would highly recommend it if the show is anywhere near you. (See the tour stops here) The set was absolutely amazing. Our Tennessee theater is beautiful enough (if you are ever in town you must tour it). There were more moving parts to this set than I have ever seen before. If you can remember far enough back you will recall the cartoon moments of this classic Disney film. No, the play didn’t turn into a cartoon, it was better than the cartoon! The costumes and set changed to the brightest, cheeriest colors I have ever seen. The songs were just as lively and fun, the dancing was top-notch and the acting was quite good. Mary Poppins even flew!!

I hate to say much more for fear of ruining the experience for you. Visit the site for a preview, tickets and show times.

Act II, the setting of this play is 1910. What did fashion look like in that time period? Think silhouette, ruffles and lace. Sound familiar? While we could look at lovely tops and dresses I think in Mary Poppins style we should get equip for the Spring rains upon us and take a look at an updated trench and some fun period-inspired pumps. Both of these items mimic the fun colors displayed in the "cartoon" scenes of the play. Enjoy this Mary Poppins Fashpiration!
