BirchBox!

I hope everyone had a lovely Memorial weekend. I really enjoyed having a relaxing long weekend at the lake with family. When I returned home, I had a little box waiting for me. If you haven't heard of BirchBox then you need to make yourself known to it. How many times have you been in Sephora or Ulta and been slightly overwhelmed by the amount of products in there? How do you know what is right for you, if it works well enough to spend what a nice blouse would cost? BirchBox takes care of this. Their site states, "Birchbox is the best way to discover new grooming, beauty and lifestyle products. Sample top products from high-end brands, get expert advice, buy new favorites and earn points with every purchase."It's basically like a magazine subscription. For $10 a month you get your box in the mail with sample goodies of high-end products catered to you when you fill out your profile. May's box was my first one and was inspired by one of my favorite shows, Gossip Girl, and the characters' summer retreat to the Hamptons. I was pleased to fine a beauty balm I have wanted to try, brush cleaner I really needed but didn't want to buy, tinted SPF 15 lip balm, my favorite kind of hair ties, some fabulous smelling perfume and a little XOXO postcard.  Click the link above to join, you will love getting the little bundle of products in the mail! Plus, the products from the box are discounted for the month they are featured, and you earn points to go toward a bigger purchase. If you look and feel good, it 's worth it.

Guest Book Ideas

Wedding season is upon us and if you are a bride, you might be looking for a fun new twist on how to do otherwise traditional aspects of the wedding. I love personal things incorporated into a wedding that the couple can remember years down the road. If a memento is involved, even better! Take the guest book for example, normally it's a formal and beautiful book that is simply signed. Wouldn't you rather be able to look back on that and read sweet sentiments or have something to stay with you until death parts you?
Take a look at some ideas I have seen done that are great, as well as some new ideas I found!

I have seen a photo album or photo book created from engagement photos that guests can sign,  yearbook style!

Have guests sign rocks with a little sentiment to decorate with in your new home together.

If you're having a small wedding, have guests place their fingerprints and names on a family tree. You're all family now right? Yep, even crazy cousin Johnny.

Vintage-inspired weddings are all the rage right now. If you can score a working typewriter, have guests type their names! Put them in a scrapbook later on.

My dear friend Holly did her guest book this way, and incorporated a photo booth as well! It's such a cute idea to have small envelopes and cards for keepsakes.

Look to the future and have guests write you a note to read on your year anniversary

Find a beautiful calendar and have your guests fill in their birthdays so that you won't forget!

Welcome To My Home: Office

My new home tour is here, starting where all my hard work happens!
Having a home office is one of my favorite things about this house-the fact that there is a cute little room especially for getting work done. Trust me, lots of work has been happening in there. I wanted a lot of space to divide out papers by color, store supplies and have a general creative area. It's all still a work in progress.
I centered the room around the Tree of Life curtains found at World Market, which I don't think are available anymore. I incorporated my fluffy yellow chair (which needs a pillow-still searching!) and ottoman along with the green lamp I already had as well as a hand-blown yellow lamp I found at an antique store. The lamp shade is my absolute favorite from Anthropologie.
The desk was formerly my dining table at my apartment, but it has more of a story than that. There is an old house near my hometown deemed the "Cat House." Supposedly the former owner left the house to her many cats. I always loved the house, it had a castle-like quality with old stones and a turret. The little antique store where I got the yellow hand-blown lamp (Lucy's in Corinth, Mississippi) had this farm table that once was in the beloved house. I loved it. It is a fabulous desk.
My mom found tons of wonderful wire baskets that I'm using for storage, along with some of my grandfather's old Ball jars to keep paper scraps in.
I think a rug would make the room a little more cozy and a bulletin board a little more helpful, but other than that I am pleased with how the room came together.

The room from the doorway:

I got the two star lights on a trip to San Antonio, the photos above the bookcases were from my trip to Italy.

I keep my business cards in a little Moroccan bowl so I can hold more. My parents and I took a glass blowing class last fall and my result was the little paperweight. It was supposed to come out blue and yellow, but turned yellow and brown instead. Oh well! The candle is Capri Blue's Aloha Orchid, it makes my entire house smell so good.

I took a cue from West Elm and turned some of my books backwards so that they were all varying shades of one color. Others were previously wrapped in brown paper. My favorite design books are readily available on top of the bookshelf.

Things I Want To Try

Sorry for being MIA this week. It's not because I don't like you, it's because I've been a busy bee. I have a lot of things to design and a lot of ideas in my head...some of which I have included today to hopefully try soon. Like those Nutella-sicles above. I love popsicles and I love Nutella...so this makes me a happy happy person. If only I hadn't thrown away my popsicle molds in the move...

An herb wheel garden would be awesome and I would have plenty of fresh herbs on hand.

A little paint or paper can fix up a simple cookie sheet to become an awesome magnet board

My Plea

Hello lovely blog readers,
I am going to humble myself today and ask that if you read this blog, to help me out a little.
I have enjoyed watching my readership grow and love bringing you ideas and fun things to look at. However, my following is much lower that I would like. The number of followers and the daily stats are not matching up. A lot of times I find myself perusing a blog and forgetting to follow it, so I am guilty of not being an avid reader of some things. But that's bad for the blog I read, because they lose one more person to solidify the notion that they are writing something that reaches people. While that may sound self-centered a little bit, it's important as a blogger to feel like your efforts are not in vain. Blogging is one of my favorite things to do but it is work as well and, like in most work endeavors, you want to see the fruits of your labor. For bloggers, and me personally, that is the fact the you like it and enjoy it and show that support by adding the blog to your Google Reader, following, commenting and taking part. It's how I grow, adjust and know what to bring you.
So, now that I have poured my heart out, I genuinely want this blog to continue to grow. I want to make connections and bring you what you want. If you wouldn't mind becoming a follower, please do so. I would love to have you be a part of my Fanciful Ink community. If you already are a dedicated reader, I want to know! Leave a comment, shoot me an email (fancifulink@gmail.com), tweet me (@fancifulink) or like my Facebook page! I would appreciate it more than you will ever know. Little things like that keep me motivated and on fire!
A few things coming up that I want to share with you:
-My new home tour! Everything is just about complete so I will be posting photos soon!
-Invitations from beautiful Fanciful Ink bride, Bree
-Invitations from a long-time friend and Fanciful Ink bride, Morgan, who is getting married in a week!
-Mood boards for 4 other lovely Fanciful Ink brides whose weddings are all in the fall.

Thank you for being a reader. I'm so grateful for your commitment. I hope we can grow together in a fanciful way!

Let's Go To The Movies

The weekend to celebrate Mom is almost upon us!
If you are looking for some stylish ideas of how to spend your weekend with your mom, I took a little inspiration from some favorite movies and some fun items from Fred Flare.

The classic Breakfast at Tiffany's is a perfect way to begin your Saturday morning. Who doesn't love this movie? Raid your dad's closet with your mom and put on a comfy oversize button-up, lounge on the couch with some pillows and most definitely keep that mask on your head so you can shut out the world when men come around-this is a girls day!

Lounging like Holly

If you are a mom yourself, snuggle up with your kiddo and watch The Wizard of Oz. I LOVE this movie and had to distract myself from buying those socks. I make no promises that I won't...

Oz Naptime

A fun way to treat Mom is a little tea party a la Alice in Wonderland. Choose a pale blue theme and some little pastries and have an al fresco afternoon tea. Watch sweet Alice navigate through the strange world of Wonderland on a laptop or portable DVD player.

Sip Tea Like Alice

If you really want to go all out, plan a fancy family dinner party with a Titanic-inspired theme of blacks, ambers and golds with pretty dinnerware. Dim the lights and make everyone dress up to make the occasion a little more special. Why not dress up for the lady who has known you the longest, been your best friend and mentor?

Drops of Spring Color

Blog Eat Drink Chic posted the above photo free for you to download and awesomely use as your iPhone wallpaper. Why, I think I just might because those little drops of beautiful color are delightful on a May day. So springy with a little promise of some summer hues in there. Of course we can't forget that power punch of gold glitter. Bold and chic!
Inspired by this fun little image, I put together a mix of must haves in these colors. Aside from the gushing Kate Spade bag (of course you know I love that), I am in love with that mint necklace from Bauble Bar
