I'm not sure how I have managed to not pay attention to the amazingness that is Bento. Little did I even know that my lunchbox that I carry daily is a Bento box! Too bad I am not skilled in the culinary art of making adorable food animals. At least I don't think I am, I haven't tried. My extent of food art of any kind is ketchup painting on a plate at a catfish restaurant in West Tennessee. I am very intrigued, however, of this kooky little world of Bento creatures, mostly Japanese cartoons and little scenes that are so intricate and colorful (the more colorful your plate is, the healthier it is! This does not include gummy bears) it's a shame to have to eat it. Apparently this is a common take-out meal for one person (it can also be done at home) in Japanese cuisine. Most contain rice, fish, meat and one or more vegetables in a box-like container and can be arranged in an elaborate style called kyaraben. (Wikipedia)
If I had time for this, I would have ridiculous amounts of fun.
